With a name like Ocean’s 8, the film may sound like a sequel, but it’s not. For Sandra Bullock, that’s probably a good thing. She’s only done two sequels in her long Hollywood career, and both have been savaged by critics. Miss Congeniality 2: Armed & Glamorous earned a paltry 34 score on Metacritic.com, and the New York Times review said that Bullock looked “as if she would rather be shoveling pig waste.” But even that pales in comparison to the reviews for Speed 2: Cruise Control, which had a Metacritic score of just 23. After filming had wrapped, Bullock knew she had a stinker on her hands, but she still had to go out and promote the movie. It wasn’t easy, but she says it taught her some valuable lessons. Ocean’s 8, with a critics’ score higher than Speed 2 and Miss Congeniality 2 combined, is now playing in theaters everywhere.
