Although Superfly is a remake of the famous blaxploitation flick that spawned an iconic soundtrack from Curtis Mayfield and launched the career of Ron O’Neal, this version won’t be a rehash of the original. Location plays a pivotal role in the film, and lead actor Trevor Jackson, who plays Priest, sees Atlanta as the perfect locale.
“I feel like ’70s New York was the popping spot at that time, but like now every one’s in Atlanta,” said Jackson. “Everything is shooting in Atlanta. Everybody has a home in Atlanta. It’s the mecca for music, it’s the mecca for acting, it’s the mecca for a lot of things. I think it’s the best place to do it.”
