One of the interesting themes that’s explored in the freshman series Reverie centers on humanity’s complex relationship with technology. Former hostage negotiator Mara Kint (Sarah Shahi) is tasked with entering a virtual-reality program to save people who have become way too addicted to this experience. Though many narratives warn us about the horrific repercussions of tech, Reverie subtly explores both sides of the coin.

Various participants in the “Reverie” program have to be pulled out of that world as it’s threatening their overall health, and Mara may be undergoing her own mentally challenging issues while on the job, but that doesn’t mean the program has its benefits. Meeting loved ones who have passed, even in a virtual existence, would be an offer many folks wouldn’t pass up.
