When he was handed the reins of Solo: A Star Wars Story, director Ron Howard was given a difficult task: satisfying the legions of die-hard Star Wars fans throughout the galaxy. Many directors would have gone directly to the Star Wars back catalog and immersed themselves in the lore and intricacies of the series. But while Howard has always been a Star Wars fan himself, he decided he wanted to take a different approach to making the movie.

Solo: A Star Wars Story, featuring Alden Ehrenreich as the young Han Solo, opens in theaters on Friday.
