In the upcoming series Reverie, Sarah Shahi (Necessary Roughness, Chicago Hope) plays Mara Kint, a former hostage negotiator who ventures into the titular virtual reality world to save individuals from being forever trapped in that universe. The program, which co-stars Dennis Haysbert, may have its fantastical and thriller elements, but it covers material that is pertinent to today’s social climate.
Shahi was not exactly steeped in virtual reality before she took on the project. “(I knew) absolutely nothing,” said Shahi. “And it’s interesting because my character is not a fan of VR. She is definitely kind of old school and feels the days of technology is somewhat evil. These people are running from something – they are throwing all of their problems into this tiny little microchip, similar to how we do with our phones and social media. We give everything to our phones and social media. So she’s not really supportive of that belief.”
