Seeing two Oscar winners go head to head is usually must see viewing, especially when that due is real life couple Javier Bardem and Penélope Cruz. Bardem received his Supporting Actor Oscar for No Country for Old Men, with Cruz landing her Academy Award for Vicky Cristina Barcelona (which also starred Bardem).
Loving Pablo centers on journalist Virginia Vallejo’s (Cruz) relationship with drug lord Pablo Esobar (Bardem). As the trailer suggests, Vallejo overlooked Escobar’s criminal activities, believing he was making a positive difference in Colombia. The project is based on Vallejo’s own memoir Loving Pablo, Hating Escobar.
Fernando León de Aranoa, who directed the 2015 feature A Perfect Day, is the film’s director. Coincidentally, Benicio del Toro, who starred in A Perfect Day, also played Escobar in the 2014 feature
The feature hits On Demand and theaters on June 15. Check out the trailer and tell us what you think!
