Next month marks the 40th anniversary of Grease’s debut on the big screen. Starring John Travolta and Olivia Newton-John, and made for a mere $6 million, it wound up making nearly $400 million worldwide and remains one of the most successful movie musicals ever. Didi Conn played Frenchy, the best friend to Newton-John’s character, Sandy, and she told us she had an amazing time making the movie, even if she didn’t always agree with her character’s fashion choices.
Because the movie, released in the ’70s, was set in the ’50s, it already had a retro feel when it was made. Because of that, Conn says, the movie has aged incredibly well, and its themes are still relevant today.
