One of Charlize Theron’s best performances came with her work in director Jason Reitman’s 2011 feature Young Adult, and now she reteams with Reitman for Tully. The picture centers on an understandably exhausted mom (Theron) whose life takes a change for the better with the help from a nanny (Mackenzie Davis). To fully submerge herself in the role, Theron gained 50 pounds, and that was after she was completely fit and trim for the action flick Atomic Blonde!

“I didn’t want to do something that felt like just not true to women out there who do this every day,” said Theron. “They get pregnant and they gain all this weight and it’s a struggle. And I didn’t want to be an actress who just shows up and was like ‘give me a fat suit.’ I guess I wanted to feel as close as possibly I could to what that feels like and empathize with that.”
