It was a great week for cinephiles, especially if you were watching movies in Hollywood, as the annual TCM Classic Film Festival took place and featured appearances from filmmaker Robert Benton (Places in the Heart, Kramer vs. Kramer), Eva Marie Saint (A Hatful of Rain), and Jeff Bridges (The Big Lebowski).

Martin Scorsese was also on hand to receive the inaugural Robert Osborne Award. During his interview with Ben Mankiewicz, he talked about the importance of TCM and Filmstruck in regards to cinema:

“It really is a platform for people to see a film,” said Scorsese. “Not to see something that is a commercial (wherein) you can change the channel or whatever it is. It creates a  value for the cinema itself.”

In the clip below Martin Scorsese talks about the “miracle of cinema” during his acceptance speech for the Robert Osborne Award at Hollywood’s Chinese Theatre.
