Although it didn’t really deliver on its promise in its later years, American Idol definitely made good on its subtitle — “The Search for a Superstar” — in its early days. Kelly Clarkson, Jennifer Hudson, Chris Daughtry, and Carrie Underwood were all among the show’s discoveries, and Underwood doesn’t think she could have made it as a singer any other way.
