A film to place in your radar within the coming weeks is Disobedience, the latest feature from Chilean director Sebastian Lelio that is headlined by Rachel Weisz and Rachel McAdams. Lelio’s previous work A Fantastic Woman garnered praise and Disobedience has also received its share of support from critics.
The story centers on Ronit, a New Yorker who returns to London after her father’s (Anton Lesser) passing. Shunned by the Orthodox Jewish community, Ronit’s return is met with reservation. Rachel McAdams and Alessandro Nivola star as Esti and Dovid, her childhood friends who are now married. This triangular relationship may have powered their youth, but adulthood is an entirely different matter.
McAdams also serves as a producer on the movie, which is based on Naomi Alderman’s novel. Check out the trailer below and tell us what you think!
Disobedience opens in select theaters April 27.
