Faces Places, which received an Oscar nomination for Best Documentary Feature, hits Blu-ray and DVD March 6 via Cohen Media Group.
Revered filmmaker Agnès Varda (Cleo from 5 to 7), one of the pioneers of the French New Wave, hit the road with French photographer/muralist JR to meet various people on their trek. Traveling in JR’s photo truck, the pair travel to villages, farms, docks, and various other sites to photograph and converse with these individuals.
These chance encounters, along with the art that is created from the exchange, is one of the reasons why Faces Places was one of last year’s most acclaimed pictures. Varda, who is 89, made her feature film directing debut with the 1955 marital drama La Pointe Courte. JR’s work was prominently eatured at the Grammy Awards, as he created the backdrop of giant eyes as U2 performed “Get Out of Your Own Way” at the New York Harbor.
Special features on both versions include a 46-minute interview with the filmmakers and the theatrical trailer.
