As we get toward the end of the year, we’ll see a lot more “prestige movies” opening for awards season consideration. And what would an awards season be without a potential contender from legendary director Steven Spielberg? This year, he’s got The Post, a drama based on the true story of The Washington Post’s battle with the government to publish the infamous Pentagon Papers from the Vietnam War. Starring in the movie are multiple Oscar winners Meryl Streep and Tom Hanks, but Spielberg’s also assembled a pretty deep bench, with Bradley Whitford, Allison Brie, Bob Odenkirk, Sarah Paulson, and Bruce Greenwood all part of the ensemble cast. Spielberg told us they were all people he specifically wanted for the film, and he was fortunate to get them. (Click on the media bar below to hear Steven Spielberg)
The Post opens in limited release on December 22, and it will open nationwide in the new year.
