Star Trek fans may not have to wait too long for another Spock and Captain Kirk story, as Please Stand By might do the trick.
Dakota Fanning plays a young autistic woman named Wendy who has a regimented day which includes working at the local Cinnabon and watching an episode of Star Trek. Determined to deliver her 500 page Star Trek script for a writing competition, Wendy leaves her caregiver and goes on a cross country journey filled with setbacks and (one would hope) life affirming moments. Patton Oswalt co-stars as the police officer who shares Wendy’s love for the Klingon language and, in a very clever stroke, Alice Eve plays Wendy’s concerned sister (Eve starred in 2013’s Star Trek Into Darkness). Ben Lewin, who helmed the acclaimed flick The Sessions, is the director.
Please Stand By hits theaters and On Demand January 26, 2018.
