The CW has carved out a nice niche for itself by airing several shows based on comic book superheroes. Of course, the characters have been updated to appeal to today’s younger viewers, which is an interesting proposition when the characters were first created decades ago. Now the network has done the same thing with the classic Archie comics, redefining Archie Andrews and his friends as characters in an edgy drama, Riverdale. Considering the source material for that show was more than 70 years old, it’s pretty amazing that the network and the show’s producers were able to turn it into something palatable to today’s audience, but the show has become a hit, and K.J. Apa, who plays Archie Andrews, told us he’s been very pleasantly surprised by that success. (Click on the media abr below to hear K.J. Apa)
Riverdale airs Wednesday nights at 8/7c on The CW.
