unlocked5Although it featured a couple of wonderfully choreographed action scenes, the spy thriller Atomic Blonde was a bit of a disappointment. Flying much more under the radar was Unlocked, a thriller headlined by Noomi Rapace that, unlike the aforementioned film, hits the target.

Rapace plays Alice Racine, a talented CIA interrogator who is haunted by a terrorist attack in Paris. Determined to make up for what she believed was her own failure to complete a mission on time, Racine attempts to stop an impending attack on London. Michael Douglas, Toni Collette and John Malkovich serve as her superiors in various departments (Douglas is her mentor and close friend), and they help Alice on her perilous mission. Orlando Bloom co-stars as a thief who also joins Alice, but he might have motivations of his own.

Noomi Rapace, seen earlier this year in What Happened to Monday, does a great job as the determined agent and she once again proves she’s adept at handling dramatic and action sequences. Michael Apted, a veteran craftsman who also directed the James Bond feature The World Is Not Enough, was also the perfect choice to direct Unlocked. Filled with a ton of action and more twists than your average pretzel, Unlocked is a flick that’s definitely worth a look.

The Blu-ray version comes with a 13-minute featurette on the making of the film and has interviews with Apted, Rapace, the producers, and the rest of the supporting cast.
