As Britain’s Prime Minister from 1940 to 1945, Winston Churchill was one of the most influential world leaders in history. He guided the UK through World War II, and this story will be told in the new bio-drama Darkest Hour. Gary Oldman plays Churchill in the movie, which details his early days as Prime Minister, which saw Hitler closing in on Britain. If Oldman gets an Oscar nomination for his portrayal — and most Hollywood pundits think it’s a sure thing — it will be, in part, because Oldman did an inordinate amount of research in preparing for the role. He lived and breathed Churchill, and we asked him what Churchill would think of the current political climate in the world today.
Darkest Hour is currently in limited release, with more theaters being added across the country in coming weeks.
