It’s simply amazing that director Ridley Scott, who turns 80 in November, has two films in the can in 2017. Earlier this year he released Alien: Covenant and, along with producing Blade Runner 2049, he also is the director behind All The Money In The World.
The film, which is “inspired by historical events,” centers on the kidnapping of 16-year-old John Paul Getty III (Charlie Plummer) and the attempts of his mother Gail (Michelle Williams) to convince his grandfather (Kevin Spacey) to cough up money for the ransom. Mark Wahlberg plays the Getty’s advisor who tries to help them figure out a way to get John Paul Getty III back alive.
Since Scott is basically known for his epic adventure films, it’s rare to see him take on straight ahead dramas. Though The Martian and The Counselor have their share of pure dramatic elements, they both exist in a somewhat fantastical or heightened universe, and All The Money In The World is actually based on a true story. All The Money In The World hits theaters December 8.
