Matt Damon’s frequent collaborations with Ocean’s Eleven buddy George Clooney has borne fruit once again with Suburbicon. This time out Clooney is once again the director (his last effort was The Monuments Men which co-starred Damon) but the script is also co-penned by the Coen Brothers.
Gardner Lodge (Damon) is living in a seemingly idyllic suburban neighborhood in 1959. Although white picket fences and manicured lawns are part of the draw of living in a sheltered community, there’s nightmarish stuff that’s brewing beneath the surface. Julianne Moore has a dual role in the narrative as Gardner’s wheelchair bound wife Rose (she was in a car accident) and Rose’s identical twin sister Margaret. Oscar Isaac, who previously worked in the Coen Brothers flick Inside Llewyn Davis, plays an insurance claims investigator who proves to be a nuisance to Gardner’s ultimate scheme.
