Director Takashi Miike (Audition, 13 Assassins, Ichi the Killer) is a storyteller who isn’t afraid of pushing boundaries, and it’s no wonder that Blade of the Immortal is making its North American debut at Fantastic Fest.

Living in feudal Japan as a criminal, a samurai named Manji (Takuya Kimura) is tired of his immortality, and its curse can only be lifted when he slays enough evil men. He eventually ends up protecting a young girl (Hana Sugisaki) whose family died at the hands of sword fighters.

Billed as Takashi Miike’s “100th film,” the filmmaker’s work ethic essentially puts many of his colleagues to shame. The red band trailer below has its share of bloodletting so be warned if you’re at work! Check it out below and tell us what you think!

Blade of the Immortal hits theaters November 3rd and Fantastic Fest takes place Austin in September (21-26).
