After bringing back two of the biggest ’90s soaps — Beverly Hills 90210 and Melrose Place — The CW is venturing back into retro soap territory with its reboot of the ’80s classic Dynasty. (Not surprisingly, all three were originally produced by the late king of TV soaps, Aaron Spelling.) While storylines about gay characters and racial issues are commonplace on TV today, they were considered risqué for the ’80s, but Dynasty wasn’t afraid to tackle them. And you can expect the diversity and adventurous storytelling spirit to continue in the new version. In fact, the lead role of Krystal Carrington — played by blonde bombshell Linda Evans in the original — has morphed into Cristal Carrington, played by Peruvian actress Nathalie Kelley. Kelley told us the change in her character’s background is going to make a big difference in the show. (Click on the media bar to hear Nathalie Kelley)

Dynasty premieres October 11 on The CW.
