Free Fire, an adrenaline filled shoot-em-up executive produced by director Martin Scorsese, hits Blu-ray and DVD July 18 via Lionsgate. The picture is directed and co-written by Ben Wheatley who previously helmed the Lionsgate feaature High-Rise.
Set in 1970s Boston, the picture centers on an American businesswoman (Brie Larson) who arranges a black market weapons deal between an IRA arms buyer (Cillian Murphy) and a South African gunrunner (Sharlto Copley). Tensions quickly escalate, guns are drawn, and bullets eventually litter the area. Armie Hammer co-stars as the businesswoman’s associate.
Since the film is mainly set in a warehouse (with Wheatley neighborhood Brighton doubling as Boston), Wheatley was able to craft the visuals of this movie at his home base. Thus, he actually built a 3D set of the warehouse with the help of the iconic video game Minecraft!
Special features on the disc include audio commentary with director/co-writer Wheatley and a featurette on the making of Free Fire.
