Tracey Wigfield, an Emmy award winning writer for 30 Rock, is the creator behind Great News, a workplace comedy that’s set on a national cable news show called “The Breakdown.” Partly inspired by Wigfield’s relationship with her mother, the comedy centers on Katie (Briga Heelan), an ambitious but creatively frustrated news producer whose mother Carol (Andrea Martin) lands an internship at the program. Nicole Richie and John Michael Higgins serve as the co-hosts of “The Breakdown.”
During our interview with Heelan, the actress talked about her immediate bond with Martin. “I didn’t meet her until we started shooting,” said Heelan. “We just locked in real fast. We got each other’s sense of humor very quickly and she makes me feel so comfortable and safe. I kind of gravitate to her like she is my mom in real life. She’s hysterical and the most fun to work with. It was pretty easy from the beginning with her.”
In the video below, Heelan elaborates on the mother and daughter dynamic of Great News:
Great News, co-starring Horatio Sanz and Adam Campbell, premieres on NBC April 25 (9/8c).
