NUP_176321_0393.jpgGrowing up, Mariska Hargitay was the very definition of the “Southern California girl.”  Born in Santa Monica to a famous actress (Jayne Mansfield) and a bodybuilder father (Mickey Hargitay), she was young, beautiful, and athletic.  And becoming a Hollywood actress only seemed to confirm the stereotype.  But then, something happened.  She won one of the lead roles on NBC’s Law & Order: SVU, which was to shoot in New York.  So, in her mid-30s, she relocated from the Golden State to the Empire State, and Hargitay told us that 19 years in the Big Apple has had a profound impact on her life.  (Click on the media bar below to hear Mariska Hargitay)

Law & Order: SVU airs Wednesday nights at 9/8c on NBC.
