Dane DeHaan (Chronicle, Lawless) has his meatiest role to date in the 146-minute thriller A Cure for Wellness. Directed by Gore Verbinski (Rango, The Lone Ranger), the story centers on Lockhart (DeHaan), an unscrupulous executive who’s tasked with finding his company’s missing CEO. What starts out as a seemingly innocuous trip to a wellness center in the Swiss Alps turns into an absolute nightmare for the protagonist, as he gradually realizes the center’s visitors, as well as its doctors and nurses, are not what they seem.
The film’s scene stealing performance belongs to Mia Goth, an up and coming star who plays Hannah, an enigmatic and seemingly naive young woman who may provide Lockhart with the key to escaping the wellness center.
“It’s the most gripping story I’ve ever read,” said Goth. “I didn’t put the script down from start to finish. And I had to fully read it three times before I could wrap my head around what the story was telling. Also (with what) Hannah goes through in terms of her journey and arc. There’s such a transformation that happens that is so intense and painful at times. To really blossom and become the woman she’s always meant – I really couldn’t not be a part of it.”
