Michelle Monaghan Chips Jamie Foxx’s Tooth In ‘Sleepless’

Sleepless Poster

In Sleepless, Jamie Foxx is a corrupt Las Vegas cop named Vincent Downs whose teenage son (Octavius J. Johnson) is kidnapped by criminals thanks to a drug robbery instigated by Downs. Michelle Monaghan is Jennifer Bryant, an Internal Affairs investigator who’s hot on Downs’ trail.

Since Sleepless is set in Sin City, Monaghan was asked if she’s a casino enthusiast. “I’m not a big gambler,” says Monaghan. “I usually allow myself fifty bucks and then I blow it in about ten minutes at the blackjack table. And that’s it – I’m done. Because I know exactly how it’s going to go. I have no strategy and I usually do it when I first get there . . . (just) get it out of my system because I feel like you can’t go to Vegas and not blow fifty bucks.”

To prepare for her role, Monaghan spent several months training for her impending fight with Foxx, and this elaborate action scene actually led the actress to chip Foxx’s tooth. Click on the media bar below to hear the actors talk about the pivotal Sleepless sequence:

Sleepless is now playing nationwide.

Outbreak on the Big Screen: Tom Hanks, Anna Kendrick, Zoe Saldana + More

144551_4687-349x522Tom Hanks as a bad guy? It could happen. Variety reports that Hanks has been offered the role of the villain in the upcoming Disney live-action update of Dumbo. There was talk earlier in the week of Will Smith also being in talks for the film.

Anna Kendrick is hoping to sink her “claus” into the currently untitled Disney Santa Claus film from Marc Lawrence. According to Variety, the movie centers on Santa’s daughter being forced to take over the family business when her father retires and her brother gets cold feet on Christmas Eve. Kendrick is in talks for the lead role, while Lawrence will reportedly direct the film.

Zoe Saldana has joined the cast for the upcoming animated film, My Little Pony: The Movie. She joins Sia, Kristin Chenoweth, Uzo Aduba, Liev Schreiber, Emily Blunt, Taye Diggs and Michael Pena among the guest vocal talent, while TV series voice cast Tara Strong, Ashleigh Ball, Andrea Libman, Tara St. Germain and Cathy Weseluck will also reprise their roles as “The Mane 6.” The film is expected to arrive Oct. 6, 2017.

The Late Late Show host James Corden has reportedly landed a supporting role in the upcoming Ocean’s Eight film. The Gary Ross-directed film stars Sandra Bullock, Cate Blanchett, Anne Hathaway, Mindy Kaling, Sarah Paulson, Awkwafina, Rihanna and Helena Bonham Carter, all involved in the planning of a heist.

Daniel Wu is the latest addition to the upcoming Lara Croft: Tomb Raider big screen update. According to Variety, Wu will play Lu Ren, a ship captain who aids Lara’s quest to find her father. Alicia Vikander will play the title adventurer, while Roar Uthaug is attached to direct. Look for a March 2018 release.

Madonna is reportedly planning to take a seat in the director’s chair for an upcoming adaptation of the Andrew Sean Greer novel, The Impossible Lives of Greta Wells. According to Dark Horizons, the film will be titled Loved and focuses on a woman who finds herself transported to the other lives she might have lived after undergoing electroshock therapy.

Though movie remakes seem to be the big thing on the small screen, the reverse is also true. In fact, you can look for a big screen update of the late ’70s / early ’80s cop series CHIPS, starring Michael Pena and Dax Shepherd as officers Frank “Ponch” Poncherello and John Baker. A new trailer has arrived for the film, which can be seen below. Look for the movie in theaters March 24.

Break on the TV Beat: American Horror Story, Atlanta, Arrested Development + More

There’s good news for American Horror Story fans as FX has renewed the Ryan Murphy and Brad Falchuk series for not one, but two years. That would take the show through Season 9.

Atlanta just won the Golden Globe for best Comedy Series, but we may have to wait a while for new episodes. According to Deadline, FX announced that there will not be a 2017 installment due in part to Donald Glover’s production schedule. The series star is set to shoot his role as Lando Calrissian in the upcoming Han Solo movie, which will take up a good portion of his year. As such, Season 2 is expected to arrive in 2018.

Talking about delays, it will also be a while before we get the next American Crime Story installment. FX president John Landgraf revealed that the Hurricane Katrina-centric season has yet to go into production and will not return until 2018 for creative reasons, also revealing that shooting in New Orleans was restricted to certain times of year. As such, Season 2 is expected in 2018, with the third season, centered on the murder of designer Gianni Versace will follow six months later.

Can’t get enough of the Bluths? According to Brian Grazer, it appears that a fifth season of Arrested Development could still happen. During a TCA press tour, Grazer was quoted as saying that all of the cast have reportedly agreed on compensation for a fifth season and that it “should be happening soon.” The first three years of the critically hailed series aired on FOX before Netflix picked up the rights to shoot and air a fourth season.

Speaking of reboots, Deadline reports that an update of the popular ’80s legal drama L.A. Law is in the works. Co-creator Stephen Bochco is reportedly working on the update with one of the original writers, Billy Finkelstein, and the new series would reportedly include new characters mixed with some returning cast, who have moved into management at the firm.

And it looks like another reboot could arrive, as Deadline reports that Joe Robert Cole, the writer-producer of FX’s People vs. O.J. Simpson, is writing an adaptation of In the Heat of the Night. The original film arrived in 1967 and centered on the race relations in a police department in the South. A TV series starring Carroll O’Connor ran from the late ’80s into the mid-’90s. The latest incarnation would be set in modern-day Mississippi.

Silicon Valley co-creator Mike Judge has a new animated series targeted for HBO. According to Deadline, Mike Judge Presents: Tales From the Tour Bus has been picked up for an eight-episode order. The animated comedy is currently in production in advance of a late 2017 premiere. The show chronicles the stories of some of country music’s most eccentric characters.

Former Weeds actor Hunter Parrish has landed a pivotal recurring role on ABC’s Quantico. Parrish will recur as a political strategist forced to work with the CIA and FBI in the aftermath of the show’s central hostage crisis. Quantico is currently on its winter hiatus, but will return to the ABC schedule in a new time slot beginning Monday, Jan. 23 at 10PM.

There’s bad news for fans of the series Good Girls Revolt. Despite a rally to give the show a second season, Sony Pictures Television was unable to find a new home for the show, which initially ran on Amazon.

FXX has revealed that the long-running animated comedy Archer, moving over from FX, will start its eight season with a Wednesday, April 5 premiere at 10PM ET/PT.

‘XX’ Marks The Spot With Deadly Debut Trailer

xxthebox

The horror anthology XX was already on my radar since two of the  “killer” female directors are Annie Clark (aka acclaimed  musician St. Vincent) and Roxanne Benjamin (one of the directors behind the first rate Southbound). Throw in Karyn Kusama, who directed last year’s nail biting thriller The Invitation, and Jovanka Vuckovic (The Captured Bird) into the mix and you’ve got yourself a potential hit.

Upping that ante is XX’s just released trailer which features a seemingly dying kid being forced by his angry father to eat (“You’re not getting up from that table until you eat that pizza, do you understand me!!), a woman wiping off blood from a bathroom room floor, and a deadly red box! It’s understandable that actress Natalie Brown (pictured) has a worried look on her face – this movie looks absolutely bone-chilling!!

Hitting theaters and VOD February 17, XX makes its worldwide debut at the Sundance Film Festival. Check out the trailer below and tell us what you think!
