Annette Bening Loves Jimmy Carter In ’20th Century Women Trailer’

20thcenturywomen

It’s been six years since the release of director/writer Mike Mills’ acclaimed comedy-drama Beginners, and now he’s collaborating with Annette Bening (Danny Collins), Elle Fanning (The Neon Demon), and Greta Gerwig (Mistress America) with 20th Century Women.

The Santa Barbara set tale centers on Dorothea Fields (Bening), a single mom who receives a bit of help raising her son Jamie (newcomer Lucas Zade Zumann). Helping color Jamie’s impressionable world are Abbie (Gerwig), a free-spirited punk artist and his mature beyond her years neighbor Julie (Fanning).

With Christopher Plummer receiving a Best Supporting Actor Oscar for Beginners, it’s safe to assume that 20th Century Women might be talked about come awards time. The movie’s December 25th release date via A24 also bodes well for the project.

The trailer, which mainly focuses on the reaction to an impassioned speech from Jimmy Carter, immediately pulls you into the story about the coming of age of Jamie (as well as, one surmises, his mother). Check out the trailer below and tell us what you think!!

‘Amanda Knox’ Documentary Takes Objective View Of Murder Case

amandaknox1The compelling documentary Amanda Knox, directed by Brian McGinn and Rod Blackhurst, centers on Amanda Knox, the woman accused and convicted of killing Meredith Kercher in 2007. Knox, her then boyfriend Raffaelle Sollecito, and Rudy Guede were all convicted of Kercher’s killing, with Knox and Sollecito receiving a full exoneration in 2015.

Instead of turning their documentary into a tabloid driven narrative, the filmmakers examine the case from different perspectives. Interviews with Knox, Sollecito, reporter Nick Pisa, and lead prosecutor Giuliano Mignini are all featured in the documentary, giving the project an even handed approach to the material.

“For us, it was really important in taking an objective look at the whole story to back off from the sensationalism,” said McGinn. “That was the only way for us to actually not only look at the people form a first person, human perspective, but also (examine the) sensationalism itself.”

“This is a story that’s not passport dependent,” added Blackhurst, who traveled with McGinn to Italy to research their documentary in 2011. “The heart of the story (is) about two Italians, an American, and a British woman. People have lost track of who they were as people, and it was important for us to have that point of view.”

Amanda Knox premieres on Netflix Friday, September 30.
