Emily Blunt Adores “Fantastic” Heroine Behind ‘The Girl on The Train’

Girl on a Train, TheDirected by Tate Taylor (Get On Up, The Help) and based on Paula Hawkins’ bestselling novel, The Girl on the Train should appeal to fans who need a bit more twist-filled thrillers in their lives.

Divorcee Rachel Watson’s (Emily Blunt) daily train ride to New York is filled with its share of bittersweet memories, as she continues to see the home where she and her ex-husband once lived. When a next door neighbor (Haley Bennett) appears missing, Rachel believes the woman’s fate may be directly linked to the circumstances surrounding her recent hangover.

“I felt that the main thrust (of the film) is that yes, she suffers from this disease,” says Blunt about Rachel’s alcoholism. “But most of the film is about, less about her being a Nancy Drew character trying to work out (this) whodunit, it’s more about (trying) to make sure she didn’t do it. I thought how f**king fantastic for a female heroine to be a blackout drunk.”
