Filmmaker Douglas Sirk is known for several classics that were released towards the end of his career (Written on the Wind, All That Heaven Allows, Imitation of Life), and thanks to Cohen Film Collection his body of work will feature some of earlier work with the upcoming Blu-ray release of Two Films by Douglas Sirk: A Scandal in Paris and Lured. Both movies feature an A-list cast.
Based on Fracois Eugène Vidocq’s memoirs, A Scandal in Paris centers on a former criminal (George Sanders) who eventually becomes the City of Lights’ chief of police. Though probably deemed as a lawman by society, he still has designs on pulling off a huge heist.
Lucille Ball may be known as one of television’s most iconic comedians, but with Lured she plays an American dance hall girl who helps Scotland Yard nab a serial killer. Sanders reunites with Sirk as a playboy who serves as one of the investigation’s top suspects, and creature feature star Boris Karloff plays a fashion designer.
Though many filmmakers, most notably Todd Haynes (Carol, Leave Her To Heaven) have drawn inspiration from Sirk’s subversive suburban dramas, it will be interesting to see what if he had similar thematic fixations with A Scandal in Paris and Lured.
Two Films By Douglas Sirk: A Scandal in Paris and Lured hits Blu-ray September 27th via Cohen Film Collection.

While the show was a modest success on CBS and would survive on any other network, CBS had the luxury of instead of canceling the show since the program has since moved on to its sister network. The CW is the perfect network for the series since it caters to a much younger audience and has thrived with such comic book series as Arrow and The Flash.
When the move was announced, many thought that the tone of Supergirl would change. However, series star Melissa Benoist says that’s not happening and she also adds that the first three episodes are great. (Click on the media bar below to hear Melissa Benoist)
