What an amazing year it has been for Academy Award winning actress Lupita Nyong’o. Not only did she win an Best Supporting Actress for 12 Years a Slave, she also landed the role in perhaps the most anticipated film in recent times: Star Wars: Episode VII – The Force Awakens.
While not much is known about the plot other than it takes place 30 years after Return of the Jedi. What we do know is that Nyong’o plays a character named Maz Kanata. We caught up with Nyong’o a few months ago asked for details and revealed that the film honors the past Star Wars films while also employing today’s state of the art technology. Director J.J. Abrams honored his love for early Steven Spielberg films with the nostalgic 2011 flick Super 8, and that cinematic sentimentality (this time for George Lucas) will probably be evident with his latest film.
Star Wars: Episode VII – The Force Awakens opens in theaters December 16.
