Making its debut in its entirety on NETFLIX this weekend, NARCOS is a ten episode original series detailing the rise and fall of Pablo Escobar (a.k.a. ‘The King of Cocaine’) and the extremely bloody battle that took place between the U.S. DEA and Columbia’s ruthless Medellin Cartel. Executive produced and directed by the renowned JOSE PADILHA (ELITE SQUAD), the series is a sweeping epic that takes an unflinching look at a devastating chapter that had a global reach in the war on drugs.
Mixing actual newsreel footage with scripted drama, the film paints a vivid portrait of ESCOBAR as a supervillain who was both terrifying and charming, saint and sinner.
The international cast includes WAGNER MOURA, STEPHANIE SIGMAN, BOYD HOLBROOK, JOANNA CHRISTIE, LUIS GUZMAN and MAURICE COMPTE and the final outcome is a series that NETFLIX should be proud of and can expect to see mentioned come awards season.
Facing reporters at a recent TCA press conference to promote the series, filmmaker JOSE PADILHA admitted that the cocaine issue is still as big as ever and, while his series makes no attempt to offer a solution to the problem, NARCOS makes it very clear that ‘demand’ is as much at fault as ‘supply’.
