Although the D.C. universe has been painted with the assured visual imagination of directors Zack Snyder (Man of Steel, upcoming Batman vs. Superman: Dawn of Justice) and Christopher Nolan (The Dark Knight trilogy), a new filmmaker is stepping out of the shadows. David Ayer, who directed last year’s underrated war feature Fury, is the man behind the camera for Suicide Squad, which received a rousing response at last weekend’s San Diego Comic-Con.
Though the trailer featured the appearances of baddies Deadshot (Will Smith), Harley Quinn (Smith’s Focusco-star Margot Robbie), and the Joker (Jared Leto), the biggest scene stealer was none other than Amanda Waller (Viola Davis) the no-nonsense agent who organizes this clandestine operative (whether Joker is part of the team or is their target adversary hasn’t been confirmed).
The trailer begins with an establishing shot of a rain soaked window that peers into a dimly light dinner headed by Waller and a couple of peers. “It’s taken some work but I finally have them,” says Waller. “The worst of the worst.” As she cuts up her juicy, high priced steak, Waller breaks down why the suicide squad is actually a fool proof outfit. As Deadshot accurately mentions in another sequence, they’ll be the “patsy” if their mission goes sideways.
Director David Ayer, a longtime native of Los Angeles, infuses his films (most notably End of Watch) with an unadorned, gritty aesthetic. Though Suicide Squaddeals within fantastical realms, the darkness that permeates from the film actually feels organic. This tough, muscular approach to storytelling should bode well for the film, which unfortunately doesn’t open until August 5, 2016!!

Ed Helms and Christina Applegate have a big set of comedic shoes to fill, as they topline the eagerly awaited Vacation. Four films of the popular franchise have already been released, but thankfully Vacation isn’t a reboot or regurgitation of past stories. Instead, the Griswolds have prepared for an all new adventure.
Helms and Applegate told us they were initially hesitant about working on Vacation since it’s a pop culture staple that they enjoyed watching during their youth. But once they read the script and learned that Chevy Chase and Beverly D’ Angelo would be reprising their roles as Clark and Ellen Griswold, they were eager to join the production. Vacation, co-starring Chris Hemsworth and Elizabeth Gillies, opens in theaters July 29.
The Reese WitherspoonandSofia Vergara comedy Hot Pursuit hits Blu-ray Combo Pack and DVD August 11 via Warner Bros. Home Entertainment. Directed by Anne Fletcher, the filmmaker behind the comedies The Proposaland The Guilt Trip, the story centers on Cooper (Reese Witherspoon), a dedicated police officer who is tasked with protecting a criminal’s widow (Sofia Vergara), who is set to testify against a drug kingpin. Thanks to corrupt cops and criminals that litter their path, their journey to the trial is less than peaceful.
The comedy was penned by scribes David Feeney (New Girl) and John Quaintance (Ben & Kate), with John Carroll Lynch and Robert Kazinsky among the film’s co-stars. Witherspoon and Vergara also executive produced the feature.
Special features on the Blu-ray Combo Pack include three featurettes (The Womance, Say What?, Action Like A Lady) and an alternate ending. The standard DVD only comes with The Womancefeaturette.

It’s a big day for Electronic Arts Inc., as EA SPORTS Rory McIlroy PGA Tour is now available for the Xbox One and PlayStation 4 consoles.
The fully realized feature Frostbite 3 allows the quicker rending of courses, thus eliminating the frustrating hole-to-hole load times and saving gamers up to 15 minutes per round. The game also offers up more detailed courses and with the extrication of the artificial out of bounds rules, the entire course is in play on every shot. This attention to detail, which reportedly includes a Baba Booey reference, will hopefully give gamers a more immersive experience.
“This is a really proud day for our team, and we’re so happy fans can finally play EA SPORTS Rory McIlroy PGA TOUR for themselves,” said executive producer Brent Nielsen. “We think everyone’s going to find something about this game to love, plus we’re looking forward to delivering free content post-launch to everyone who picks up the game.”
EA SPORTS Rory McIlroy PGA Tour was developed by EA Tiburon and is rated E for everyone. For more info, check out www.easports.com.
