Since its original release in 2001, the low-budget, raunchy comedy WET HOT AMERICAN SUMMER has become a cult ‘guilty pleasure’ largely because of its (then somewhat unknown) cast of amazing talents. Now, producers/writers MICHAEL SHOWALTER and DAVID WAIN have reassembled that cast (and even increased it) for the new NETFLIX series WET HOT AMERICAN SUMMER: FIRST DAY OF CAMP.
Set in 1981, the eight episode series reinvents all the wacky raunch of the original film as it follows the counselors and campers on their first day at Camp Firewood. It also reunites cast members AMY POEHLER, PAUL RUDD, BRADLEY COOPER, DAVID HYDE PIERCE, CHRISTOPHER MELONI, MICHAEL IAN BLACK, ELIZABETH BANKS as well adding such names as JON HAMM, JOHN SLATTERY, CHRIS PINE, JOSH CHARLES, JASON SCHWARTZMAN and KRISTEN WIGG.
When asked at a recent TCA press conference if this marks the end of the line for WHAS, producer MICHAEL SHOWALTER indicated that there are plenty more stories to tell. (CLICK ON THE MEDIA BAR FOR AUDIO)
WET HOT AMERICAN SUMMER: FIRST DAY OF CAMP premieres in its entirety on NETFLIX 7/31.
