Chanel Iman Takes On ‘Dope’ With Wild Child Spirit

Chanel Iman in "Dope" (Open Road Films)

Although she’s best known for her work as Victoria’s Secret Angel, Chanel Iman is more than just an elegant and statuesque model. Case in point is her film debut Dope, where she plays Lily, a rebellious and uninhibited young woman who vomits in the face of Malcolm (Shameik Moore), an Inglewood, Ca. senior with dreams of going to Harvard (Lily is the daughter of the Harvard alumnus who is set to interview Malcolm).

Reel life and real life are two different universes, as Iman admits she’s nothing like her character whatsoever. “I’m not Lily in person,” says Iman. “I’m really kind of quiet and shy, but acting allows me to just be wild and crazy. So yeah, but I love Lily because she’s edgy and wild. She’s careless. She was fun to play.”

Even with her success as a model as well as the good word of mouth surrounding Dope, Iman is still aiming to reach new horizons in her career.

Dope, co-starring Kiersey Clemons and Tony Revolori, opens June 19. To check out an interview with Dope actor Shameik Moore, go to Deepest Dream.
