Getting Groot-Esque: Vin Diesel Loves His ‘Guardians’ Role

130The catchphrase is a staple of every action movie, so Vin Diesel is accustomed to playing roles with a catchphrase. But when it came to Guardians of the Galaxy, his catchphrase is more than just a catchphrase – it’s his only phrase! In playing Groot, a character who only knows how to say “I am Groot,” he found a role that was truly compelling to him on several levels.

Oscar-Winning Actor/Director Richard Attenborough: R.I.P.

goth_39-jada-publicity-two_3195rca-11Entertainment communities on both sides of the pond are mourning today’s passing of RICHARD ATTENBOROUGH. The actor/director/producer was 90 years old.

A veteran of almost 80 films, ATTENBOROUGH made his screen debut in NOEL COWARD’S 1942 war story IN WHICH WE SERVE. From there he went on to act in such familiar titles as I’M ALL RIGHT JACK, THE GREAT ESCAPE, THE FLIGHT OF THE PHOENIX, THE SAND PEBBLES, A BRIDGE TOO FAR and, of course, the JURASSIC PARK franchise (to name just a few). As a director and producer he won two Academy Awards for the 1983 biographical epic GHANDI and was nominated for several awards for his work on CHAPLIN, CRY FREEDOM and (the often derided) A CHORUS LINE. An enduring force in the world of entertainment, LORD

RICHARD ATTENBOROUGH will certainly be missed. During one of our many interview sessions, he talked about working both in front of and behind the camera and what it meant to him.

At 62 Years Young, Liam Neeson Is Loving His Career As An Action Hero

ar8d48862Soon to hit theaters, A WALK AMONG THE TOMBSTONES is the big screen adaptation of one of the many titles in the series of best selling novels by LAWRENCE BLOCK featuring former-cop-turned-unlicensed-private eye Matthew Scudder. A recovering alcoholic who more often than not casts a blind eye to the finer points of the law, Scudder is BLOCK’S most popular creation and a bona fide action anti-hero.

Directed by SCOTT FRANK (from his own screenplay), the film stars LIAM NEESON as the iconic private eye and places him smack dab in the center of the action as Scudder searches for the kidnapped daughter of a notorious drug lord.

This isn’t NEESON’S first time as an action star and at the age of 62, he hopes it isn’t his last. In town this week to promote the new film, he talked about his action inspirations. (CLICK ON THE MEDIA BAR FOR AUDIO)

A WALK AMONG THE TOMBSTONES opens in theaters next month.

Oscar Winner Mira Sorvino Heads For The Dark Side In The New BBC America series ‘Intruders’

129Currently airing on BBC America, INTRUDERS is a taut slice of supernatural storytelling that should have audiences on the edge of their seats. The answers come slowly (if at all) as an ex-cop investigates a secret society determined to achieve immortality by inhabiting the bodies of others.

Based on the novel by MICHAEL MARSHALL SMITH and slated for an 8-episode run, the first four episodes are directed by EDURADO SANCHEZ (THE BLAIR WITCH PROJECT), produced by GLEN MORGAN (THE X-FILES) and feature a cast that includes Academy Award-winner MIRA SORVINO, JOHN SIMM, DARYL SHUTTLEWORTH, JAMES FRAIN and ROBERT FORSTER.

Although she’s barely around in the pilot episode, Oscar-winner SORVINO assures us there’s a lot more of her to come. At a Television Critics Association press conference to promote the series, SORVINO talked about her reasons for taking on the role. (CLICK ON THE MEDIA BAR FOR AUDIO)

INTRUDERS airs Saturday nights on BBC America.

When It Comes To ‘Sin City’, Robert Rodriguez Is More ‘Facilitator’ Than Director

31In theaters this week, SIN CITY: A DAME TO KILL FOR is the sequel to the 2005 cult fave SIN CITY and succeeds in being an extremely stylized, high-concept film that is absolutely stunning in its reimagining of classic film noir tropes.

Directed by ROBERT RODRIGUEZ, the film’s all-star cast includes BRUCE WILLIS, MICKEY ROURKE, JESSICA ALBA, JOSH BROLIN, JOSEPH GORDON LEVITT, ROSARIO DAWSON and EVA GREEN (just to name just a few). Adapted for the screen by the legendary FRANK MILLER from his own graphic novels, SIN CITY manages to captivate as an inventive mash-up of past and future. With the graphic novel acting almost as a storyboard for the film, RODRIGUEZ tells us (on the red carpet at this year’s ComicCon) that he wasn’t actually ‘directing’ so much as he was ‘facilitating’.

SIN CITY: A DAME TO KILL FOR is in theaters now.
