Sexual Soap Opera ‘Masters Of Sex’ Returns For Second Season On Showtime

32Picking up where season one left off, the hit Showtime series MASTERS OF SEX opens season two with the budding romance of sex researchers William Masters and Virginia Johnson slightly stalled because of professional and personal speed-bumps. Beautifully set in the ’50s and based (we’re told) on the real-life experiences of Masters and Johnson, MASTERS OF SEX was created by MICHELLE ASHFORD and boasts an all-star cast that includes MICHAEL SHEEN, LIZZY CAPLAN, CAITLIN FITZGERALD, TEDDY SEARS, BEAU BRIDGES and JULIANNE NICHOLSON.

Finding the balance between the comedic and dramatic is tough when dealing with sex and nudity in a repressed mid-century America. Talking with reporters at a TCA press conference, SHEEN and CAPLAN admitted that the key to this show’s success is finding the right ‘tone’. (CLICK ON THE MEDIA BAR FOR AUDIO)

Season 2 of MASTERS OF SEX debuts tonight on Showtime.

31Airing tonight on Lifetime, the Sophomore Season finale of the popular nighttime soap DEVIOUS MAIDS promises to deliver the expected number of surprises and cliffhangers. Set in the glitzy world of Beverly Hills and centered on the relationship between a close-knit group of domestics and the families they work for, the series covers all the adult soap staples: murder, adultery, mystery and blackmail.

Created by MARC CHERRY (DESPERATE HOUSEWIVES), the cast includes such names as SUSAN LUCCI, JUDY REYES, ANA ORTIZ, ROSELYN SANCHEZ, REBECCA WISOCKY, GRANT SHOW, TOM IRWIN and WOLE PARKS.

Picked-up by Lifetime after being passed on by ABC, DEVIOUS MAIDS originally faced some criticism for the possible depiction of stereotypes. ‘Land Ho!’ Is A Gutsy And Life Affirming Trek Through Iceland

Land Ho! (Sony Pictures Classics)If you’ve checked out the trailer to Land Ho! or even read a few of its reviews, the premise of two amiable elderly men (Paul Eenhoorn, Earl Lynn Nelson) journeying to Iceland seems like pleasure enough jaunt. And in fact, thanks to the fine acting work of the lead players and the surefooted direction of Martha Stephens and Aaron Katz, Land Ho! is wonderful and funny escapist fare.

Iceland’s beautiful vistas also give the film an added visual texture, proving that even low budgeted films, thanks to the use of digital cameras and a beautiful backdrop, can look absolutely expensive. But Land Ho! is more than just a few funny jokes between a couple of lifelong friends (they’re former brothers-in-law) or an exercise in gorgeously shot cinema. Colin (Eenhoorn) is a reserved soul who is slowly receding into complacency while the straight talking and oftentimes rowdy Mitch (Nelson, who is related to Stephens in real life) wants to squeeze as much as he can from this lifetime. Both men couldn’t be more different personality wise, and occasionally they butt heads during their Icelandic trip.

Still, they share one common goal, as both are looking to find their footing in the world or as Nick Drake once sang, they’re just looking for a “place to be.” Tragedy affects us all, and maybe within its wake, we lose a bit of that fire. That fate, however, hasn’t befallen Earl Lynn Nelson.

“I love life,” says the actor, who along with being an actor is also a oculoplastic surgeon. “I know that because of my experience with death.  I spent four years, three months and thirteen days in Vietnam.  I found both of my parents dead, and tomorrow, I could be dead.  Therefore, I squeeze life for every nickel that I can get out of it every day. I work hard and I play hard.”
