Why Did del Torro Detour Into Television With ‘The Strain’

25Guillermo del Toro has been one of Hollywood’s most prolific filmmakers. Over the course of the past decade, he’s written, directed, or produced close to two dozen movies, often pulling double- or even triple-duty on several of those projects. He’s now bringing his talents to American television, as co-creator and executive producer of the FX horror series The Strain. (Not coincidentally, del Toro also wrote and directed the series’ pilot.) With so many movies to be worked on, why did del Toro want to take on TV as well? As he told us, he loved the idea of introducing characters that could grow and progress as the show went on.

The Strain airs Sunday night on FX.
