Celebrating its 40th season on PBS, LIVE FROM LINCOLN CENTER has just announced the planned broadcast of two major theatrical events to launch the annual PBS Arts Fall Festival. First up is the New York Philharmonic’s critically lauded stage production of STEPHEN SONDHEIM and HUGH WHEELER’S musical thriller SWEENEY TODD: THE DEMON BARBER OF FLEET STREET. The astounding cast features BRYN TERFEL, EMMA THOMPSON, CHRISTIAN BORLE and AUDRA McDONALD.
The following month will see the broadcast of THE NANCE, DOUGLAS CARTER BEANE’S acclaimed drama set in the twilight of New York’s burlesque era and centered on a homosexual actor living and working in the secretive and dangerous gay world of 1930’s Manhattan. NATHAN LANE recreates the titular role which won him a Tony Award nomination in 2013.
Speaking last week to reporters at a press conference promoting the play, DOUGLAS CARTER BEANE explained why writing THE NANCE was important to him. (CLICK ON THE MEDIA BAR FOR AUDIO)

Guillermo del Toro has been one of Hollywood’s most prolific filmmakers. Over the course of the past decade, he’s written, directed, or produced close to two dozen movies, often pulling double- or even triple-duty on several of those projects. He’s now bringing his talents to American television, as co-creator and executive producer of the FX horror series The Strain. (Not coincidentally, del Toro also wrote and directed the series’ pilot.) With so many movies to be worked on, why did del Toro want to take on TV as well? As he told us, he loved the idea of introducing characters that could grow and progress as the show went on.
Following the huge viral success of 2013’s SYFY horror/comedy hit SHARKNADO, SHARKNADO 2: THE SECOND ONE moves the action from the West to the East Coast and features a slew of famous faces in cameo roles. Directed by ANTHONY C. FERRANTE, the film reunites original stars IAN ZIERING and TARA REID along with newbies VIVICA A. FOX, JUDAH FRIEDLANDER, MARK McGRATH and KARI WUHRER.
We recently sat down with ZIERING and REID to talk about the SHARKNADO phenomenon and she reminded us that this isn’t her first experience working in the horror genre. SHARKNADO 2: THE SECOND ONE premieres on SYFY 7/30.
For seven seasons, Lisa Edelstein played Dr. Lisa Cuddy on House, the beloved FOX drama. Edelstein left the series before its final run, and went on to guest star on many other shows. Edelstein is now returning to a starring role on the Bravo series, Girlfriends’ Guide to Divorce, playing a self-help book author.
Edelstein says that starring on House was the best thing that ever happened to her and felt that it could never be topped. But finding a great role on her new series proved to her that good and better things can happen. Lisa Edelstein’s new series, Girlfriends’ Guide to Divorce has been renewed for a second season.
Throughout his remarkable film career, Academy Award winner Michael Douglas has shared the silver screen with several of Hollywood’s most illustrious leading ladies, including Kathleen Turner (Romancing The Stone, Jewel of the Nile & War of the Roses), Glenn Close (Fatal Attraction), Jane Fonda (The China Syndrome), and Gwyneth Paltrow (The Perfect Murder). Now, Academy Award winner Diane Keaton can be added to that list, as they star together in the new romantic comedy, And So It Goes.
Keaton has not only enjoyed a wonderful film career, she has also led a very interesting life off-screen. She is known for her charming personality and her high-profile romances, having dated such celebrities as Al Pacino, Warren Beatty and Woody Allen.
Douglas told us he definitely understands the attraction of Keaton — both on and off the screen — and said she is one of best actresses he has ever worked with. (Click on the media bar below to hear Michael Douglas)
