Currently airing on TNT, MURDER IN THE FIRST is a police procedural that follows the course of one case over a seasonal 10-episode arc. Taking the leads are TAYE DIGGS and KATHLEEN ROBERTSON as a pair of San Francisco homicide detectives doing their best to balance their own personal baggage with solving a pair of murders that seemingly have nothing to do with each other but ultimately cross paths. Co-created by crime drama godfather STEVEN BOCHCO and newcomer ERIC LODAL, MURDER IN THE FIRST is classic ‘cop drama’ form and is reminiscent of such iconic shows as STREETS OF SAN FRANCISCO, NYPD BLUE, HILL STREET BLUES and, maybe even, DRAGNET. But the show it most brings to mind is BOCHCO’S own MURDER ONE, a police procedural that debuted 20 years ago and concentrated on solving one case over the course of a 22-episode season. Thought to be ahead of its time, the series lasted just two seasons.
At a recent press conference to introduce the new show BOCHCO addressed references to his earlier program. (CLICK ON THE MEDIA BAR FOR AUDIO)
