During the 1970’s 80’s and 90’s, Richard Donner was one of Hollywood’s most successful directors, having directed box office hits like the Lethal Weapon films, The Goonies, the 1976 version of The Omen, and Superman.
The Omen was remade a few years ago, and is once again being remade for television to be aired on Lifetime. Last year, the Superman franchise was rebooted, and there are rumors that a Lethal Weapon reboot with Thor’s Chris Hemsworth cast as Martin Riggs (played by Mel Gibson) son is in the works. The thought of revisiting those classics might excite some film buffs, but Donner is less pleased to see those reboots in the pipeline. We spoke to Donner a few years ago, and he told us that the original movies should be left alone – especially Lethal Weapon. He also explained why he thinks TV is now producing better quality projects than the big screen. (Click on the media bar below to hear Richard Donner)
