Sanaa Lathan Celebrates Universality of ‘The Best Man Holiday’

The Best Man Holiday It’s amazing it took fourteen years to get The Best Man a sequel, but The Best Man Holiday is finally coming out on November 15. The original’s success lied in the sheer likability of its main characters, which featured such stars Sanaa Lathan, Taye Diggs, Morris Chestnut, and Regina Hall. All of the principals are back for this outing, and Lathan recently talked about the film’s significance.

“People are hungry for stories that are layered,” said Lathan. “And they can recognize themselves and their family and their friends and what they are going through.”

The Book Thief’s Sophie Nélisse On The Joys of Reading

The Book Thief (Twentieth Century Fox, CR: Jules Heath)

Based on the bestselling novel by Markus Zusak, The Book Thief centers on Liesel (Sophie Nélisse), a resilient girl whose life in a German town during WWII is not exactly idyllic. Geoffrey Rush and Emily Watson co-star as the loving foster parents who help Liesel navigate the tragic waters of the ensuing years. Brian Percival, best known for his work on Downton Abbey, directs the feature.

During a recent interview, Nélisse talked about her passion for reading, and added that she would rather turn the page of a real book than peruse a narrative on her iPad.

“I think reading is important because for the time that you read, you are not yourself,” says Nelisse, who also starred in the evocative and subtle drama Monsieur Lazhar. “You’re in your little bubble. (It’s) just you and no one else and you get to imagine some things. That’s why I like it.”
