Tonight (NBC, 8 pm et/pt) marks the fifth season of The Voice, and although the last cycle featured a successful run from Usher and Shakira, show regulars Christina Aguilera and CeeLo Green are back as coaches.
Blake Shelton’s devoted country fan base as well as his diverse roster of talent has led to three straight wins, as Team Blake vets Jermaine Paul, Cassadee Pope, and Danielle Bradbery are all winners of The Voice (Blake’s season one frontrunner Dia Frampton was a finalist, as Javier Colon from Adam Levine’s team took home the coveted crown).
With a total Shelton domination, can the three judges step it up and give Team Blake a run for its money, or will the winning continue for the amiable singer and his new crew?
Sunday night’s Emmy win was a surprise for The Voice, as it beat out awards stalwart The Amazing Race and received the honor for Outstanding reality competition. The Voice executive producer Mark Burnett gave his thoughts during last night’s backstage interviews when asked about the success, as he described the program as a “kind show.” “There’s no humiliation in The Voice,” said Burnett. “People said these types of shows would never work without humiliation, but not true. America loves kindness and freshness and brilliant music.”
With ratings flagging for The X Factor and American Idol at an all time popularity low, The Voice’s momentum is at an all time high. Winning an Emmy also doesn’t hurt.
Congrats to @NBCTheVoice for the Emmy! I might be biased, but that's a damn good show if ya ask me. 😉
