The new series The Following centers on an ex-FBI agent (Kevin Bacon) who has an intricate connection with an Edgar Allan Poe obsessed serial killer (James Purefoy). Previously known for his work as Mark Antony on the HBO series Rome, Purefoy sees his character in The Following as a manipulator who is engineering an evil master plan.
“This man really is the devil, I guess cubed, if you’d like because he’s a really bad man, but he’s also incredibly smart, he’s charming as hell, he’s very, very bright, he’s academically right on the button, and he’s got a super objective that actors love a super objective and this super objective – this man goes way, way down the line,” says Purefoy. “Hopefully seven years down the line, but it’s a big, big plan that only he knows, so he’s kind of up above everybody else, looking down, because they’re all scrambling around in the gutter trying to work out what the heck he’s going to do next.”
An encore of The Following’s season premiere airs tonight on FOX (9 pm et/pt)
