Keith Urban Engages In “Debate 101” On American Idol

American Idol (FOX/Frank Micelotta)

Keith Urban and his fellow American Idol judges have their opinions on which singers should make it to the competition, and as last week’s two-part premiere displayed, the arguments can get a bit animated.

“It turns into Debate 101 I’ve watched Nicki (Minaj) debate, she is very good at it,” says Urban.  “She is really good because she will sort of say ‘well how about this one or that’ and you are like at a certain point you will say, ‘that is a good point’ and I am going to change my question mark to a yes, you know, or my no, I might change that to a yes.”

Urban is also surprised that at the “level of passion” he has for certain contestants, and sometimes being a judge doesn’t always come with being objective and dispassionate.  To hear Keith Urban talk about being “invested” with the singers, click on the media bar below:

Urban’s most memorable moments from last week was his “Baby It’s Cold Outside” duet with fifteen-year-old songbird Isabelle Parell, who I hope makes it past the Hollywood rounds (fingers crossed).  Why Randy Jackson voted “no” on Parell makes me seriously question his eardrums and his judging acumen.  Anyways, check out the video below:

Tonight’s two-hour American Idol installment (FOX, 8 pm et/pt) has the judges checking out singers in Charlotte, NC.
