116The American Idol judges are falling like dominoes, as Jennifer Lopez announced on Ryan Seacrest’s KIIS-FM morning radio show that she is leaving the gig after just two seasons.  With Steven Tyler’s decision to exit Idol , that leaves program mainstay Randy Jackson, and apparently he’s on the fence about returning.

Jackson’s decision is highly important, as he and Seacrest will serve as the only on-camera talent left from American Idol’s first season.  Although Mariah Carey is reportedly one of the rumored frontrunners to replace Lopez, Idol’s success is not only rooted in the contestants’ singing ability, but also the natural chemistry among the judges.  Rumors of Adam Lambert as a possible judge has drawn its share of love from the singer’s devoted fans, and he’s the type of guy who won’t mince his words when it comes to criticizing the starry eyed hopefuls.  For all their telegenic charisma, Tyler and Lopez were more cheerleaders than judges during their Idol run.  As for my personal pick, I’d love to see Cheryl Cole prove the X Factor bigwigs wrong as an Idol judge.  Let’s hope the new judges add a little bark (and bite) to the proceedings.
