The hype was definitely worth it, as The Hunger Games debuted with a record breaking $155 million in over the weekend, making it the highest debut for a non-sequel picture (the highest debuts go to the last Harry Potter movie, which turned in $169.2 million, and the Dark Knight, which made $158.4 million).  21 Jump Street checked in at a distant second with $21.3 million.  Here’s the top 10:

3.  Dr. Seuss’ The Lorax – $13.1 million

4.  John Carter – $5.01 million

5.  Act of Valor – $2.06 million

6.  Project X – $1.95 million

7.  A Thousand Words – $1.93 million

8.  October Baby – $1.72 million

9.  Safe House – $1.7 million

10.  Journey 2: The Mysterious Island – $1.37 million
