ROBERT DOWNEY JR. WORKS IN THE “SHADOWS” WITH JARED HARRIS

SHERLOCK HOLMES: A GAME OF SHADOWS

Although many fans will be drawn to the breakneck action of Sherlock Holmes: A Game of Shadows, the cerebral (and inevitably physical) interplay between Holmes (Robert Downey Jr.) and Professor Moriarty (Mad Men actor Jared Harris) is just as memorable.

Finding his footing as Moriarty was a challenge for Harris, as the improvisational methodology of director Guy Ritchie and Robert Downey Jr. may have clashed with his fastidious approach to acting.

POSTER FOR ‘PROMETHEUS,’ RIDLEY SCOTT’S NEW ALIEN VENTURE, RELEASED

prom44

Whether it’s shooting inside the Bradbury Building for Blade Runner, following a con man in the streets of Los Angeles in Matchstick Men, or capturing the vengeful mission of a Roman general (Gladiator), director Ridley Scott has provided moviegoers with an ambitious visual canvas filled with epic landscapes and larger than life storylines.

It’s unclear if Prometheus, Ridley Scott’s latest feature, is a straight up prequel to his sci-fi flick Alien, but fans will know the answer when it hits theaters June 8th, 2012.  Starring Michael Fassbender, Noomi Rapace (Sherlock Holmes: A Game of Shadows), and Charlize Theron, the picture’s first poster was released this week.

Mr. Scott ranks right up there as one of my favorite directors, especially since most of his films go beyond the unambitious studio fodder we’re offered these days.  I recently interviewed Mark Strong, who worked with Scott in Body of Lies and Robin Hood, and he recounts a rather memorable story of shooting the climactic battle sequence in Robin Hood.

Mark Strong co-stars in director Tomas Alfredson’s (Let The Right One In) spy drama Tinker, Tailor, Spy, which is now playing in select theaters.
