Filmmaker David Cronenberg is in fine form yet again with his latest drama A Dangerous Method, a film that deals with Carl Jung’s (Michael Fassbender) friendship with Sigmund Freud (Viggo Mortensen) as well as his romantic involvement with one of his patients, Sabina Spielrein (Keira Knightley). Unfortunately, Jung’s bond with both intimates wanes over the years, due to either different philosophies, or in Spielrein’s case, domestic obligations. Jung’s fascination with parapsychology would lead him to develop a term called synchronicity, which attempts to prove that there really is no such thing as coincidence.
The topic is briefly addressed in A Dangerous Method in a scene between Jung and Freud, and during today’s Press Conference for A Dangerous Method I asked Fassbender if he agrees on Jung’s concept of synchronicity. Here’s his response: [MEDIA=5413]
A Dangerous Method opens November 23rd.
