Eddie Murphy Not Likely To Bring The Life Of Richard Pryor To The Big Screen

pryor-meets-murphyDespite having an interest in starring as his old pal RICHARD PRYOR in a big screen biopic, comic actor EDDIE MURPHY says it’s not likely to happen. Speaking to reporters at a press conference to support his upcoming ensemble comedy, TOWER HEIST, MURPHY said that he’s actually seen writer/director BILL CONDON’S script and attended a couple of meetings about the proposed project but doesn’t feel it’s going to come to fruition. As for TOWER HEIST, MURPHY is back to form after a series of family aimed films and shares the screen with BEN STILLER, ALAN ALDA, TEA LEONI, CASEY AFFLECK, MATTHEW BRODERICK and GABOUREY SIDIBE under the direction of BRETT RATNER. A comedy caper movie reminiscent of such films as OCEAN’S 11 and THE HOT ROCK, it could be one of this season’s biggest draws.
TOWER HEIST opens in theaters Friday

‘The Sing-Off’ Scares Up Some Special Treats For Halloween

NUP_146237_0121.JPGArguably, one of the best TV reality/competition shows that nobody talks about is the NBC talent test, THE SING-OFF. The a cappella singing competition is hosted by NICK LACHEY and features a panel of judges comprised of BEN FOLDS, SARA BAREILLES and SHAWN STOCKMAN (who stepped in for NICOLE SCHERZINGER after she flew the coop to hook up with THE X FACTOR). After starting out with a talent pool consisting of 16 groups, the ultimate winners walk away with $200,000 and a recording contract. In tonight’s special Halloween installment, fans can expect a catchy collection of spooky tunes as well as some pretty outrageous costumes.
Taking a gentler approach to criticism than most talent competitions, the show’s judges offer suggestions rather than snark. We recently spoke with host LACHEY, who explained his thoughts on the subject. (CLICK ON THE MEDIA BAR FOR AUDIO)

‘THE X FACTOR’ JOURNEY CONTINUES FOR TOP 12 SINGER LEROY BELL

leroy2LeRoy Bell is far from being a frontrunner on The X Factor, as the 60-year-old’s easy like Sunday morning approach gets lost in the shuffle amidst the youthful swagger of Chris Rene and Astro, the tear drenched cheeks of Stacy Francis, the straight up visual appeal of Lakoda Rayne, and the infectious exuberance of InTENsity.  But I’m hoping in Bell’s case, viewers will appreciate that still waters run deep, and he can survive deep into the competition.  Mr. Bell’s sensitive, smooth as silk voice will fit snugly into my Amos Lee/Ben Harper/Ray LaMontagne iTunes playlist, and the longer he stays on The X Factor, the more Bell songs I’ll be able to download.

During a recent interview, Bell talked about finding new horizons to his music: “One of the things that I learned is that I am still, you can teach an old dog new tricks.  They can still learn something.  I mean I’ve always thought that because I’ve tried to stay current and I think (The X Factor) has taught me that I’m even more flexible than I thought I was and that’s great to know.”

What did you think of LeRoy Bell’s performance of “Nobody Knows” this week (if you haven’t seen it, check out the clip below)?  Do you want to see more of LeRoy, and does he have what it takes to reach the finals?  And why did Paula Abdul compare LeRoy’s voice to Michael Bolton’s??

The next installment of The X Factor airs Wednesday, November 2nd (Fox, 8 pm et/pt).

‘Allen Gregory’ Joins Animation Domination Sundays On Fox

allen-gregory_480_posterFinally premiering this Sunday on Fox-TV, the much talked about ALLEN GREGORY is the latest addition to the Animation Domination line-up consisting of THE SIMPSONS, THE CLEVELAND SHOW and FAMILY GUY. The brain-child of comic actor JONAH HILL, the series follows the social misadventures of a precocious 7-year-old whose uncouth elementary school pals are unable to deal with or understand a sophisticated brainiac being raised by two gay dads. Along with HILL (who stars in the titular role), other voice talents include FRENCH STEWART, LESLIE MANN and WILL FORTE.  We recently sat down with HILL to talk about the new show, and he admitted to a real pride of ownership with this new series.
