leroy2LeRoy Bell is far from being a frontrunner on The X Factor, as the 60-year-old’s easy like Sunday morning approach gets lost in the shuffle amidst the youthful swagger of Chris Rene and Astro, the tear drenched cheeks of Stacy Francis, the straight up visual appeal of Lakoda Rayne, and the infectious exuberance of InTENsity.  But I’m hoping in Bell’s case, viewers will appreciate that still waters run deep, and he can survive deep into the competition.  Mr. Bell’s sensitive, smooth as silk voice will fit snugly into my Amos Lee/Ben Harper/Ray LaMontagne iTunes playlist, and the longer he stays on The X Factor, the more Bell songs I’ll be able to download.

During a recent interview, Bell talked about finding new horizons to his music: “One of the things that I learned is that I am still, you can teach an old dog new tricks.  They can still learn something.  I mean I’ve always thought that because I’ve tried to stay current and I think (The X Factor) has taught me that I’m even more flexible than I thought I was and that’s great to know.”

What did you think of LeRoy Bell’s performance of “Nobody Knows” this week (if you haven’t seen it, check out the clip below)?  Do you want to see more of LeRoy, and does he have what it takes to reach the finals?  And why did Paula Abdul compare LeRoy’s voice to Michael Bolton’s??

The next installment of The X Factor airs Wednesday, November 2nd (Fox, 8 pm et/pt).
