Although the specific plotline of Prometheus has yet to be released, the picture is reportedly a prequel to the Alien franchise, and during interviews for her latest film Abduction, Sigourney Weaver was supportive of Ridley Scott’s (he directed Alien) latest venture.

“I actually talked to Ridley about this very idea, and I’m delighted he’s doing it” says Weaver, who will also be seen later this year in the police drama Rampart.  “I feel it’s in good hands.  It’s a wonderful franchise and if they can invigorate the creature, it could have another life.”

“I do think that Alien was ahead of its time,” she adds.  “It makes me laugh because it’s not like…our producers were lovely men, and Ridley Scott too.  But they weren’t being feminists.  They thought the last person that anyone would think would survive is this girl.  So it was really done for the story, not for any political, feminist reason.

Abduction, which is headlined by Taylor Lautner, opens nationwide September 23rd.  Prometheus, starring Michael Fassbender and Charlize Theron, opens June 8th, 2012.
